The club has been abuzz with activity over the holidays, with increasing numbers of barefoot bowlers using the greens, and last week’s Wednesday all-dayer being completely booked out.

This week the pace doesn’t slow, with the women’s pennant competition back in action, as is the insanely popular Twilighters on Wednesday evening. To top it off, we see the men’s pennant resume on Saturday. A highlight of the calendar is the men’s singles championship, which will be played on Friday (January 17) at 2pm. Two of the club’s best-credentialled bowlers, Darryl Kitchen and Alan Sampson, will contest the event.

Both are in excellent form this year, having been selected to play in the GDBA representative squad, so a great match can be expected.

And on the social front we have two major attractions coming up.

On Monday, January 24 the club and the Surf Coast Veterans Centre co-host an afternoon of “bowls, barbie and banter” with AFL legend Glenn Archer “and friends”.

The event, which includes a memorabilia auction, kicks off at 4pm. Tickets are on sale now at $30 per person (phone 5261 7262 or 0409 965 842), with proceeds going to the veterans’ centre.

Also, on Sunday, February 27 the club will host “Victorian entertainer of the year” Rodney Vincent.

Tickets to see the popular musician, singer and storyteller cost $15 per person. Phone 5248 2437 or 5261 2309.
